Emmanuella REITER - Viola  Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, soliste London Philharmonic Orchestra
English Biography: Praised as an “excellent violist with wonderful technical assurance, conviction, innate musicality and intelligence”, Emmanuella Reiter enjoys a varied and international career.
An enthusiastic chamber musician, she has been a member of prizewinning string quartets and has performed with internationally renowned artists such as Roger Tapping, Ida Haendel, Peter Frankl, Vladimir Mendelssohn and Jean Sulem.
As a concerto soloist she has performed with orchestras in England, Italy, France and the USA. She has recorded for Arsis, Hessischer Rundfunk, Jigsaw Live, Terezin Music Anthology and has appeared on Boston’s WGBH classical music radio.
In 2008 Emmanuella founded the highly successful Jigsaw Players, offering high caliber chamber music and jazz concerts as well as educational projects in Wimbledon and around the borough of Merton.
An experienced orchestral player, Emmanuella has performed with all the major London orchestras (London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) and has been a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra since 2008.
For over three years, Emmanuella served as Teaching Assistant to Kim Kashkashian in the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She later held the position of Visiting Viola Tutor at Birmingham Conservatoire and is now a regular guest at the Royal Academy of Music in both the Junior and Senior Departments. She has been invited to give Master classes in the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, the Eastman School of Music and the New England Conservatory. She has recently been appointed Viola Professor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
Ms. Reiter’s passion for teaching led her to publish a book entitled Karen Tuttle's Heritage: the Theory and Practice of Co-ordination. The book expounds a technique developed by the late Karen Tuttle, a former pupil and assistant of William Primrose, of helping to prevent and overcome playing-related injury, as well as dealing with issues of expression, gesture and sonority on the viola.
Born into a family of musicians in Jerusalem, Emmanuella began her musical studies at an early age with her father. After lessons in violin and piano at the Conservatoire National de Region de Nice, France, she entered the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, USA. In January 2001, on discovering her passion for the viola, she entered the class of Kim Kashkashian at the New England Conservatory in Boston. There she received both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees.
